Updated 9/5/16 – Yaarlo changed the cash out option to Pay Pal to min pay out of $50. It used to be $20 when I originally wrote this.
Lots of research companies need receipts to analyze for market research reports for brands or retailers. So they make apps and reward users with free gift cards or cash Pay Pal Deposits. The reports are summarized from lots of other shoppers so brands or retailers will not have specific information on you. Yaarlo app is safe to use and is similar to other popular apps like Receipt Pal and Receipt Hog by rewarding you to scan itemized (clearly shows store name, date, location, and total purchase) receipts. This is not a rebate app so it is easier to use because you do not have to look at the app until after you are done shopping! Then you scan the receipt. Give Yaarlo’s customer service team time to review your receipt and then they will assign a value to pay you based on the receipt. The Cash Balance part of the app shows you how much money you have. And when you get to $50.00 you can cash out and have the money deposited into your Pay Pal Account or you can cash out sooner for gift cards (like Amazon, Target, Panera, or Starbucks) when your balance gets to $10.00.
Yarloo also has a ” Shop ‘n Earn” section where you can get up to 5% back when you shop online through Yaarlo. You can shop through the app or go to www.yaarlo.com to start earning % back on online shopping at lots of retailers.
They accept itemized receipts (with name of business, date, location, and total) from:
- Grocery stores = .25% back
- Retail Stores =.25% back
- Whole Sale Clubs =.10% back
- Gas Stations =.10% back
- Restaurants (local, chain, & fast food)= .25% back
- Entertainment =.20% back
- Personal Services =.20% back
Main Drawback is you can only submit 1 picture to capture a receipt and how I handle that
Just like my favorite receipt scanning app Receipt Pal, Yaarlo only allows you to take one picture to submit a receipt. This can be a problem with big receipts. I often do not even bother wasting my time submitting really long receipts to Receipt Pal and Yaarlo because most of the time it will get rejected were they can not read it with one far-away picture. But I do still submit them to Receipt Hog. I also do not submit almost unreadable receipts that printed with low ink.
I have been successful on submitting medium size receipts by cutting off some info they do not want on the bottom of some receipts. This allows me to zoom in closer when trying to take one picture of the receipt. Remember Yaarlo wants store name, date, location, and total.
Make sure you have good lighting when submitting receipts. I use a light widget on my phone. And others use flash light apps to make it easier to submit clear receipts and to avoid errors for unreadable receipts.
Before taking the picture in the Yaarlo app click your phone’s screen to zoom in on the receipt to focus. So on your phone click the receipt on your screen to zoom in before taking the picture.
Note: Yaarlo says that in the future they will add the ability to shoot 3 pictures per receipt. I can not wait!
How old can my receipt be?
You have up to 14 days to scan the receipts. So you can gather all of your receipts and scan a lot of them all at one time. I like to scan receipts all at once when I am submitting my Receipt Pal and Receipt Hog receipts.
What is Shop ‘n Earn?
Shop ‘n Earn allows you to save money up to 5% back when you shop online through Yaarlo with several retailers. You can use this feature my clicking the Shop ‘n Earn section of the app, click the retailer you want to shop at, and then continue to online shop. If you purchase something your % back will automatically be applied to your account. If you prefer to not shop through the app you can still use this Shop ‘n Earn feature at www.yaarlo.com. Yaarlo also says that they are working on adding more retailers soon, too!
Yaarlo has referral codes!!
New Yaarlo users get free starter bonus money if they sign up with a referral code. The person who refers get paid to but do not know how much yet. The apps says you will not get your referral points credited until after your friend confirms their email and must complete a scan receipt transaction. I am assuming complete probably means it must be submitted and then approved . If you or your friend signs up with a referral code you should get the sign up referral bonus but you will not see it until you confirm your email and get approved for scanning one receipt.
How can I get a referral code to sign up and get my free bonus starter money?
If you need a code you can use CATWILS560 or look in the comments for other users codes. I am going to ask readers to submit their codes below here in the comments. So after you sign up come back here and enter your Yaarlo code. If you want you can also comment under someone’s code comment to let them know you used their code.
On the main screen of the app. Click the 3 lined menu symbol to bring up the menu.
Under the Earn Cash Section click Refer a Friend.
A text message message will pop up.
Write down or Copy & Paste it to where you want to share it.
Note: Yaarlo also is planning to add a share on Face Book option in the app soon.
How many receipts per store can I submit per day?
Yaarlo does have a limit of only 2 recipts can be entered per day for each like store. So you can submit more than 2 receipts per day but only 2 per day can be from the same store. This is normal for apps to have this clause to stop users from cheating and scanning other people’s receipts they find to get paid.
How long does it take Yaarlo to approve scanned receipts?
This app is taking a lot longer for receipts to get approved then then other scan receipt apps. They say it could take up to 30 days. Yaarlo is also busy trying to improve this new app. But I look at it as free money / gift cards and do not mind waiting for free money and gift cards!
Warning about when your receipts get rejected
The biggest drawback to this app is when they reject an receipt. They provide a reason and a link to see the receipt. But the link does not show you the whole picture of the receipt you submit. They zoom way way way in to show you a tiny part of the receipt. Which makes it really hard to see if they made a mistake. Also because it takes so long for them to approve or reject receipts your memory of that receipt may not be good, too. This will be my first complaint and suggestion to their customer service because it was annoying!
Right now you can contact support for suggestions, support, or questions by emailing them at firstname.lastname@example.org. They ask to give them about 24 – 48 hours for a response. No one is perfect. If you feel Yaarlo made a mistake you can contact them this way. It is normal for new apps to have some kinks to work out. They are also planning on adding a dispute button to the app in the future also.
Who wants to test this app out with me and start getting paid to easily scan your receipts?
Go here to get the app on Google Play Store, the App Store, or shop online to get a percentage back. Are you going to save the free money and gift cards for the holidays or will use them as soon as you earn them?
