I would recommend to start investing in your Sunday Coupon Inserts in amounts of 4 or 6 Newspapers. Depending on the size of your family and the weeks coupon inserts. Always count the inserts in the paper to see if they are all there before buying! Some dollar stores sell Sunday Newspapers for a $1 . Start asking your friends, coworkers, family, and neighbors for their unused coupon inserts! You will be surprised how many people order the Newspaper and throw away tons of coupons! Once you start getting free stuff you can reward your Coupon Fairies with free stuff or help them shop with you for deals.
I recommend not to start cutting coupons out yet! I do not have time for a coupon binder so I will show how I organize and coupon easier with out a coupon binder. I used to use a coupon binder my coupons and I could not shop with a baby or kids with that huge binder and then I started getting way to many coupons to fit in them. I also had way to many expired coupons in it, too.
How to Organize Your Inserts
First write the date of the coupon insert on the top of the insert. The date is the date of the Sunday Paper. If you do not know the date look close at the side of the inserts. The tiny print will tell you the date.
Sort the Inserts in 3 Piles: Smart Source (SS) , Red Plum (RP), and Procter and Gamble(PG). Sort each Pile with the newer dates on the top and the older ones on the bottom. I put my inserts in two folding file system organizers (see KCL You Tube on bottom of page) that can be easier stored in your trunk. I have one for SS and one for RP . And the front section of my RP file system has a section for the monthly PG inserts (they expire at the end of the month when the new monthly one comes out so you will only need one section for PG).
Often you will get more than one SS or RP insert in the Sunday Paper! You will need to label the top of the insert like this SS1, SS2, SS3, RP1, and/or RP2. If you are filing your inserts label the date like this example ” SS 1 and SS 2″. If you do not label your coupons this way later you will forget that their was more than one SS or RP and you will be not be able to find coupons. This is another reason why I like to organize my coupons in a hanging folder file cabinet or a traveling folding organizer.
Time Saving Insert System
UPDATE: If you are like me and do not have time to label the hanging folders for your inserts you can quickly organize with the inserts sticking out vertically. I know it does not look pretty but I love my inserts this way! I am now also saving time finding the inserts, too!
Some important tips to make this system work:
➡Make sure you clearly label the tops of the inserts with the dates (like the details above)
➡If you do not label every like insert then always keep the one labeled in front.
➡To save time I do not label the folder the inserts sit in. I hate those tabs!
➡I have three sections. PG inserts are in the center to help divide up the RP and SS inserts. I have a diffrent color folder for the PG inserts to help my eye find it fast.
➡ I tend to use the SS coupons more than the RP ones so I keep the SS inserts in front section before the PG inserts. And then the RP inserts behind the PG inserts.
➡Always keep the inserts organized with the newest in front and oldest in back of each section. That is the key to help this be a find the insert fast system.
➡This system works better if you keep the coupon inserts fit in so they are not too lose. You do not want folders falling down. They do not have to be really tight because the folders can naturally fan out.
➡When you start to put the insert sections in the unlabled folders it is easier to have the organizer tilted so the backside is on the table. And then slide sections in until it fills up.
Do not take out older inserts until you need room to put in new ones. I only take out older ones every couple months. But I keep the older ones I take out and save them in a “just in case” pile. Who has time to check the expiration dates on each coupon? So then if a deal pops up from a older insert I can go to my “just in case” coupon pile.
Coupon Insert Book
If you have time or if you can not afford to buy organizers, you can also sort the pages in the inserts. I do not know why, but my daughter saw me doing this and wanted to help! So we will take the outside of all the inserts and put them together for a coupon book. Then I sort all of the other 2 page adds the same way for the second and second from last page. After you sort all of the 2 page coupon pages, then sort all of the same one page ones to go in the middle of your coupon book. Some times I will staple each same page section once per page , so that I can find coupons faster. This will help you find coupons faster. Just be careful when you cut them out not to ruin the coupons because they may not line up exact.
How to save on Sunday Newspaper Home Delivery:
I also, like to have one newspaper delivered to my house from my local Newspaper. But wait till they are signing people up at your local grocery store to get free gift cards and lower rates. My local newspaper is also signing me up for digital coupons on my smartphone with my subscription! Because coupon insert deals are Regional, Sunday morning I look through the coupon inserts to help me decide how many extra papers to buy.
If you already have a Newspaper Delivery to your house you can save money a couple ways. First, if you do not read the News Paper make sure you are only getting delivery on Sunday with the Coupons. The paper will want you to get the Retail Adds delivered another day in the week. You do not need these you will be getting tons of these when you buy your extra Sunday papers at the stores .
Second, calculate how much per Sunday paper you are paying for (it should be cheaper than the stores price). If there is another Newspaper Carrier in your city call them and see if they can give you a lower deal. Then call your and pretend to cancel you local delivery give them your price your are paying per paper and what the other carrier will give you to see if they can match or beat the price. I found this out when I called to cancel my delivery when the Sunday store paper was cheaper. Then, later when I really wanted to cancel they again wanted to lower it even more.
