Printing coupons can be a great resource to save money. In lesson one I mentioned not trying to use every newspaper coupon. One reason I often ignore some newspaper insert coupons is because I will save more with a printable coupon for the same product. Again coupon blogs will tell you the best coupons to use. And you can follow links from their blogs to easily print. You will need to install coupon printing programs for lots of coupon websites. They are safe.
Saving Money on costs when printing coupons
Black Ink VS Colored Ink
Most couponers will change their computer options to print only in black in white. My black ink for my printer is way cheaper than the color ink. So I change the setting on my two old lab tops to print in only black and white. The coupons still scan and work great in black and white because all of the description and scanner barcodes print great. Once in awhile, I might get a picture that does not show up clearly on the coupon but you do not need the picture to use the coupon. Infact, I found this actually helps me coupon with the coupon grinches (cashiers who wrongfully change and make up their own coupon rules). Some of the cashiers wrongfully look at the pictures on coupons instead of reading the wording on the coupon. They look less at the pictures when they are in black and white. Once in awhile, I might get a cashier who thinks that the black and white coupons are photocopies (illegal coupon fraud). I just point out that the printable coupons have different id #s on them.
Another printing tip is some coupons will print the time and date the coupon was printed around the spot where you cut the coupon. If you are printing 2 per computer for coupons, you could slow down and print them so they have different times on them to show a paranoid cashier.
Saving money toward paper cost when printing
I also save money on paper by saving my unused paper. If you print one coupon on a time per the best deals (to save on ink), the coupons will print on the top of the paper. I cut the coupon top part straight off and save the bottom unused part for the next printable deal. I turn it upside down so the straightest side is going in the printer first, and then print the next one. ***Do not store the smaller paper in the printer. You could forget and print 2 or 3 coupons and forget that the paper is small and then you will be missing coupons. ***
Some couponers also try to print 3 coupons at a time to save on paper (which I rarely do because it takes up too much time). The coupon sites that print three coupons at a time are Coupons.com, RedPlum.com and SmartSource.com.
So if I see a coupon I need from one of the three major coupon sites above then I might look at other coupons quickly to see if any of my favorite brands are available. For example, when my kids were younger I always would check the baby section.
Common questions when printing coupons
How many coupons can I print?
Most sites will allow you to print two coupons per computer, tablet, or phone. Sometimes you can easily print two buy printing one and then hitting the back button. If that does not work you can also usually always go back in and clip and print again.
Can I make copies of coupons?
NO way! Copying coupons can land you in jail because it is one way to do coupon fraud. If you do it the stores might accidently accept it. Each coupon has individual security features. So when the coupon gets to the clearing house it will be marked as fraudulent coupon and the store will not get paid for that coupon.
Already printed error when you never printed it
Printable coupons have only a certain amount of print limits to give out. Once the print limit is reached the coupon becomes unavailable. If you see that “already printed error” and you have not printed that coupon it usually means the print limit has been reached and it is no longer available to everyone.
