These are easy apps that pay you to scan your receipts after you shop without rebates! Yes research companies need to view consumers receipts to make summarized reports for stores and manufacturers. So they make apps to get the info. They get paid for the research and then reward the app users with free gift cards or Pay Pal deposits. I love that you do not have to look at your receipt until after you shop for these apps. I often use these apps to earn free money or gift cards to get free gifts for my children each year during the expensive holiday season. These apps are easier to use then the rebate scan receipt apps and are less time consuming.

Yaarlo is a new app that also pays to scan receipts. I would recommend it for short receipts. Pay out is higher depending on your total spent at the store.
The app has no points so you can actually see how much money you are getting back per receipt scanned after it gets approved! I find it more fun to see how much back you are getting. The pay outs are faster than Receipt Hog too! Unlike other nonrebate scanning apps you can earn fast money with this app by referring other friends to use this app.
You can not scan long receipts at this time because the app only allows you to take one snap shot of the receipt. But the app says they are working on increasing number of pictures to 3 in the future. But since the pay out is higher for higher total receipts I think they should increase their goal to at least 7 or more pictures in the future. Because this is a new app it is understandable to give them time to make improvements.
This app now has a small wait time before you can start scanning receipts. This is my favorite app for getting paid for scanning short receipts!
You get a high amount of points per receipt for each receipt scanned. Points earned does not matter how much you spent. So if you have a short coupon receipt with a total spent of $0.00 you can still earn points toward a payout with that receipt.
The app does limit how many receipts you can scan per week. And Receipt Pal only allows you to take one picture of the receipt. If you zoom out to far to try to capture a long receipt it often will not be readable to get approved toward points. This is why I do not waste my time on long receipts with this app. But I admit that taking only 1 picture of your receipt is less time consuming than other apps. I sometimes zoom out a little for medium receipts if I do not have enough short receipts to fill up the point cards. Or often cut off parts of receipts the app does not want like the survey info on bottom.
This app is good for scanning all of your longer receipts (like grocery receipts) that are too long to scan with Receipt Pal and Yaarlo. I heard of a waiting list to be able to use the popular Receipt Hog app.
Highlights This is the only non rebate receipt scanning app that allows you to get paid to scan longer receipts. I also love the option that you can earn free spins to play a fun slot game to earn points based on scanning receipts that do not earn points or by referring friends or family to use the app.
Receipt Hog does have a new cap on how many receipts you can scan. Unless you are a big spender the pay outs are also really slow on this app. But note I am a bargain/coupon shopper so my receipt totals would not earn me enough points as a regular shopper. I often use this app more for bigger total receipts that my nonbargain shopping husband might bring home or my bigger longer coupon haul receipts. Because of the cap limit on how many receipts we can scan, I am now saving my receipts and scanning the highest total ones first once a week.
Shoparoo is similar to Receipt Hog because it is set up by the same research company. The main difference is the money earned from scanning receipts goes to your choice of a school. I have not done a detailed review of this app because it works similar to Receipt Hog but note some rules may be different. The link above takes you to their website to get the app.
This is great resource for PTO parents to raise free money for their school. I love that I can not feel guilty for turning down other more expensive fundraisers (like overly priced candy or pizza) because I am helping the school this way instead. I also like it shows you how much other people have raised for the school to help motivate you to try to beat the other school parents each month.
I noticed from a huge school with about 30 students per class. That only 27 parents/family members per the whole school were using this at my daughter’s elementary school to help the school. But also note the PTO mom’s only mentioned it one year and then never mentioned it again after that. I find it easier to use this app because I already have my receipts out to scan for the other apps above. So why not quickly get my school some free money, too.
PTO ideas to get more $ back from this app
If you are a PTO Mom or Dad you could greatly get more free money for your school if your school utilized the monthly highest scanners info in the app for little contests similar to the way they do to get more box tops. Students could possibly earn a longer recess for their class, cheap snack, game day, movie day, pajama day, no uniform day, etc. But the parents would have to tell you what name they are registering with and what class their student is in to track winning classes or students each month.
