I will be adding helpful pictures and another warning soon. I wanted to post this Listia review ASAP because of the warnings. My readers know I am usally positive when posting info.If I do not like an app, I do not blog about it. But, I feel obligated to warn the 1000 something Face Book friends that I suggested they use this app prior to me learning some of this info.
Listia is an App similar to Ebay with many differences:
– First, instead of selling items you give away unwanted stuff you no longer want or need in exchange for points. Other Listia users can bid with their points to win items . Some sellers also offer a GIN (= a buy it now for more points option). Some sellers offer free shipping and some require you to pay. You can filter out in your searches for only free shipping auctions.
☺-You can get free points without giving away stuff = free stuff. When you first start your account Listia will give you free points for simply things you would normally do when registering. I ended up with about 5,000 something points when I signed up. You can do activities like try out apps or watch video adds for free points. I have watched some videos and sometimes get no points so I always do the try game apps first. But, I would always avoid the surveys and cautious of ones offering really high points which probally have a catch where you will be spending money = not free points. .
-You can also purchase points through Listia.
😟 Unlike the Ebay app, the Listia app does not ask sellers how much package weighs or measurements of package. It also does not ask the bidder to enter zip code until after they win. Why is this important? This makes it hard for a seller or buyer to calculate exact shipping charges for you. The ebay app calculates costs automatic for buyers/sellers to see. It also can cause problems where unexpierenced sellers can overcharge you for shipping, or if you are the seller you may under estimate how much to collect. If you can not afford to pay for shipping for stuff you are giving away be prepared to do alot of work when potential bidders start asking how much exact shipping would be for them. Because, I had expierence selling and shipping items on Ebay it was easier for me to guess what shipping might be based on weight and package size, then I would ask for a flat shipping charge. I ended up paying a small portion of the shipping (also depends on distance between buyer and seller). This was way easier than doing all the work for exact shipping.
😟- Beware of accidently winning a Digital Delivery auctions. Many users post pictures of items that they are not giving away. If you read the description it might say something like this “instructions on how to make this your self”. I do not like the Listia app automatically checks off digital delivery on searches for items. You can easily uncheck the Digital option from your searches but you have to remember to do it every time if you want to avoid these digital delivery auctions. Just be carefull not to accidently bid on a digital delivery that you thought was a regular auction.
– So all my Face Book friends are aware this used to be one of my favorite apps to start getting free/cheap gifts for the holidays when you are broke. Most of Listia users are great but, I recently did get scammed on Listia so below are some things I just recently learned. After, I use up all of my Listia points I will no longer giving my stuff away and will start selling/buying stuff on Ebay instead. I might still use Listia to get free stuff with the free way to get points.
BUYER BEWARE WARNINGS:
(Listia if you fix any of these issues feel free to email me. I did love your app until I got scammed out of alot of points. If you improve your app, I will be happy to update this post.)
You can get easily scammed on Listia for many reasons listed below :
😟- Unless you pay for shipping, You have No Pay Pal protection to back you up incase a Listeria scammer pretends to mail you an item you won. And if you pay for shipping with Pay Pal, it only covers shipping not your Listia points. Now that I have been scammed, I will ask all sellers if they will promise to give a tracking # after item is shipped before I bid. If they saythey are mailing items in envelopes with regular stamps with no tracking I would not bid.
😟- Listia’s How to information is short and vague. I think they need to add alot of more help info. I tried to click the Sections for more info and nothing happened. They need more directions and Questions and Answers for each section.
😟 Listia has no Customer service button in the App to contact them.
😟- Unlike Ebay, Listia has no link to easily read other winning bidders comments on the seller. This makes it easy for you to get scammed or read why others were unsatisfied. For example, I prefer not to bid on items where sellers send the items in envelopes because the item could get damaged during delivery. On the Ebay app, I can easily read good and bad reviews to help me decide if I should bid or buy.
😟 Unlike Ebay, if you get scammed you may be unable to leave a bad review for the seller. This recently happened to me
when I tried to give a bad review it said negative reviews not allowed. So I had to mark neutral or positive only. Now, when you look at this seller’s history, it is falsely saying she has 100% good reviews. Other potential bidders will only see my bad review if they look at the super hard to find comments on the auction I had a problem with. She was auctioning off so many other things chances of anyone clicking my auction and reading it is very slim. Prior to my bad expierence, I was wondering why so many users had perfect reviews, too. Recently, I saw other similar complaints on Listia’s Face Book page to know that the ” You can not leave bad review to a seller problem” happens to other Listia bidders, too. I did see some sellers with 99% under history, so I am not sure how to actually report a scammer or bad seller, yet. Again this is another reason why Listia needs a better help section and a link to customer service!
😟- If you request a refund Listia will belief the seller (could be potential scammer) over you.If you request a refund for an item you never receive, Listia gives the seller 5 days to dispute it. If they dispute it, Listia will give your points to the scammer if they dispute it. Unlike Ebay with Pay Pal Protection, Listia will take the side of the seller VS the buyer. This happened to me recently where the seller was ignoring my messages and would not give me tracking #s or proof it was mailed. I informed Listia: I waited 3 weeks (from the day they claimed they mailed it) with no delivery, seller was ignoring my messages, refusing to provide shipping/ tracking info, etc. The seller, ignored my messages but responded to Listia right away when I requested a refund. Listia then transfered all of the points from the undelivered auction to the scammer! Listia commented Seller is disputing refund, closed my request with no reason or message to me, and then noted all of my points for the auction was going to the seller. I wanted to see more info on reason for the decision. I was upset when Listia had no option for me to talk to them for more info.
😟 Listia facebook page has bad customer service. If you post a complaint on the Face Book page they may erase your post without even messaging you. This happended to me when I mentioned I got scammed and could not leave a negative review for seller to warn other bidders. Listia, please train your workers to answer our concerns before erasing our questions. A simple message to contact customer service with a link instead of Facebook would be way nicer than ignoring and covering up complaints.
😟- Beware of Listia’s customer service. Here if the hard to find link for Listia’s customer service. I had to hunt it down on Face Book. If you request help be prepared to wait awhile for an answer. I am recording/ testing how long it takes them to answer my concern. I will repost when they answer my concern. Still waiting for them to answer my request for customer service.
